For 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade Recreational Coaches:

Do You Have A Quality Rec Team That Loves Soccer? Stay On As Head Coach, Play In Heartland Premier League, Wear a Sporting BV Premier Uniform, and Get Training From SBV Pro Staff Every Week!

The Sporting BV Pre-Premier Program gives established Rec teams the opportunity to experience a "lite" version of Premier soccer for one year with their current coach.

A chance to see what it's like to compete in the Heartland Premier League under the Sporting Blue Valley badge. But you stay as the head coach, and your players stay together.

We provide the curriculum, weekly SBV Pro Staff training, field access at SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex, and full club support.

It’s a one-season bridge designed for teams ready to take the next step. It introduces Premier-level structure, competition, and exposure without going through the standard Premier tryout process, allowing your existing roster to experience the next level together before entering that pathway.

The best players on your team will (and should) advance directly to Premier, but for the players who aren't ready to leave their team this is the best way to get the "lite" version and keep their current coach and stay with their friends.

SBV Pre-Premier players gain experience training with professional staff, can be called up to guest play with SBV Premier teams, and finish the season with the option to advance into full Premier or stay together another year.

What Is Sporting BV Pre-Premier?

The Sporting BV Pre-Premier Program is a one-season bridge into the Sporting Blue Valley Premier pathway — designed for teams ready for more structure and challenge while keeping the same roster, coach, and team identity.

Your team stays intact.

You remain the head coach.

Sporting BV provides the curriculum, training, facilities, and Pro Staff support to bring your team up to Premier speed.

Your team will compete in the Heartland Premier League under the Sporting Blue Valley badge and uniform, in the lower divisions.

This allows players to experience Premier-style competition while staying with their friends and coach.

Each team trains twice per week:

  • One coach-led session — conducted by the team’s current coach, following a provided SBV training curriculum and supported by club staff.

  • One Pro Staff Technical Night — held at SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex, led by Sporting BV professional staff alongside multiple Pre-Premier teams. These sessions follow SBV’s Play–Practice–Play model and focus on building technical ability, awareness, and decision-making in a structured setting.

At the end of the season:

  • Players can be evaluated for placement into Sporting BV Premier teams.

  • Coaches can apply to continue their roster in Pre-Premier for another year if enough players return.

  • During the season, individual players may be called up as guest players with Sporting BV Premier teams, gaining valuable exposure and experience at the highest level.

How Sporting BV Pre-Premier Will Help You:

This program gives you a clear structure, stronger support, and a more stable path for your team’s growth.

You’ll have access to the same type of training, planning, and resources that our Premier players get, without having to do it all on your own.

Most importantly though, you’ll keep your players.

The Pre-Premier Program gives you a way to move your entire roster forward, within the Sporting Blue Valley system, backed by the club’s technical structure, support, and reputation.

It’s the next step for coaches who want to:

  • Transition their full roster together — no tryouts or team splitting.

  • Train using Premier-level curriculum, facilities, and oversight.

  • Give top players the opportunity to guest play with Premier teams.

  • Build continuity and retention inside the SBV pathway.

How to Register:

Getting started is simple.

Sporting BV Pre-Premier Details:

Training & Competition Structure:

Each Pre-Premier team follows a simple schedule that fits into what your families are used to right now in SBV Rec.

Teams train twice per week during the season — one optional session led by the coach, one led by SBV Pro Staff — and compete in the Heartland Premier League for regular local play.

1: Coach-Led Practice (Optional)

  • Run by the team’s current coach, using a curriculum and weekly training outlines provided by Sporting Blue Valley.

  • Held on a grass field or the SCHEELS OP Soccer Complex depending on availability

2: SBV Pro Staff Technical Night (Required)

  • Once weekly at SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex (14 per Fall and Spring Season)

  • Four teams share one 11v11 field, with each team assigned to a quarter of the field.

  • Two to four Sporting BV Pro Staff coaches oversee the session and introduce the weekly technical focus from the center circle (for example: passing angles, first touch, or small-sided positional play).

  • After the overview, each team runs the activity in its own quadrant, managed by the parent coach and supervised by Pro Staff.

These sessions follow the Play–Practice–Play structure used in Premier training.

League Play

Teams compete in the Heartland Premier League during the fall and spring seasons.

Competition remains local, with no required travel or additional tournaments unless your team chooses to participate.

There is no scheduled winter session for this program. If you want to submit your team to Heartland Futsal League you may, but it's not required.

In Short:

This program is built for families used to the structure of SBV Rec. We only require one training per week, with the option for a second if your schedule allows: optional once with your team, required once with SBV Pro Staff.

Uniform:

Players in the Sporting BV Pre-Premier Program wear a simplified version of the official Sporting BV Premier uniform.

Pre-Premier is the only program that grants access to the “lite” version of our Sporting BV Premier kits, designed to make the transition from Rec simple and affordable while still giving players the experience of wearing what our top players wear.

Each player receives:

  • Two practice tops, shorts, and socks

  • One game top, short, and sock

  • Shared goalkeeper top (per team)

SBV Pro Staff Night:

Each Pre-Premier team attends one SBV Pro Staff Technical Night per week at SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex.

These nights are designed to replicate the format, tempo, and instructional quality of a true Premier training environment, while keeping the environment simple, structured, and age-appropriate.

Four teams share one 11v11 field, divided into four quadrants.

Each team trains in its own quarter under the supervision of their volunteer coach, while 2–4 SBV Pro Staff oversee the full session.

HOW IT WORKS

The Pro Staff lead the training from the middle of the field.

They introduce the session’s topic, demonstrate the activity, and manage the timing and progressions for all four teams simultaneously.

Parent coaches act as team managers during these nights, organizing their group, running the drills in their quadrant, and applying corrections with guidance from Pro Staff.

Every session follows a Play–Practice–Play model consistent with U.S. Soccer’s preferred development structure and SBV’s internal training philosophy.

EXAMPLE TRAINING NIGHT SESSION:

Topic: Building Out of the Back / Creating Passing Angles
Field Setup: Four 1/4-field Dutch Diamond layouts (each quadrant roughly 40x30 yards)

1. Play (Free Play) — 10–12 minutes

  • Objective: Let players play naturally while observing shape, spacing, and decision-making.

  • Setup: 5v5 or 6v6 in each quadrant with small goals (no restrictions).

  • Focus Points:

    • Encourage communication and spacing.

    • Observe natural tendencies in possession and transition.

    • Identify one or two key points to emphasize later (e.g., wide positioning, playing out under pressure).

2. Practice (Focused Activity) — 20–25 minutes

  • Objective: Introduce the day’s tactical theme using a Dutch Diamond structure.

  • Setup: Each team sets up in a diamond shape (1 CB, 2 wide players, 1 striker, rotating roles).

  • Drill Example: Dutch Diamond Passing Pattern

    • Player A (center back) plays to Player B (right wide).

    • Player B one-touches into Player C (striker checking in).

    • Player C lays off to Player D (left wide), who dribbles out or plays back to restart.

    • Rotate positions every few minutes.

  • Progression:

    • Add passive defenders.

    • Limit touches to 2-touch.

    • Require verbal cues before receiving.

    • Eventually, finish into mini goals to simulate “playing out” moments.

  • Key Coaching Cues:

    • Create passing angles (triangles).

    • Open body shape before receiving.

    • Communication between first and second line.

3. Play (Applied Game) — 15–20 minutes

  • Objective: Reintegrate the learned concept into game play.

  • Setup: Small-sided 6v6 games with directional play and targets (e.g., mini goals or end zones).

  • Coaching Points:

    • Reinforce the same cues (angles, spacing, first touch forward).

    • Allow the game to flow — minimal stoppages.

    • End with reflection: “What worked when you found space wide?”

ROLES EACH PRO-STAFF NIGHT:

  • Pro Staff Coaches: Lead the full-field structure, introduce the focus topic, manage timing, and circulate between quadrants offering technical feedback.

  • Parent Coaches: Run their team’s activity in the assigned quadrant, applying corrections based on Pro Staff direction.

  • Players: Receive consistent technical repetition while maintaining game realism.

Over time, coaches will receive a session plan calendar outlining the weekly technical theme — such as (EXAMPLE!!):

  • Week 1: Passing & Receiving Angles (Dutch Diamonds)

  • Week 2: Dribbling to Create Space

  • Week 3: Defensive Shape in Small Groups

  • Week 4: Playing Through the Middle

  • Week 5: Creating Scoring Chances

Each topic connects to the next, giving teams measurable progress across the season.

Pricing:

The program is designed to remain cost-effective so players can "try" the Premier experience for a year.

  • Annual Fee: $600

  • Uniform Kit: $225

  • Technical Nights with SBV Pro Staff: $150 Fall / $150 Spring ($10/SBV Pro Staff night)

TOTAL PRICE (INCLUDING UNIFORM) = $825

TOTAL PRICE + OPTIONAL TRAINING (INCLUDING UNIFORM) = $1,125

Duration and Player Pathway:

This program runs through Fall and Spring, but does not include winter to keep it the same structure as SBV Rec.

(You can play Heartland Futsal League in the winter, but it's not required. SBV Premier teams play futsal so our players play it eventually.)

After the first season:

  • Players can level up into full Sporting BV Premier teams through our standard placement process.

  • Coaches may apply to return with their roster if the team remains viable.

  • Individual players may also be invited to join Premier teams during the season through guest playing opportunities, giving them experience and visibility at higher levels.
